If you're anything like I am, you may find yourself busier than you set out to be. With friends, family, and work commitments, things that are truly blessings can feel overwhelming if we're not careful. This is why rituals --those small, intentional practices that can bring about deep healing -- are so important. Whether it's a morning cup of coffee or tea, a walk in the park, or a meditation before bed, rituals have the ability to ground us and provide comfort in the midst of our beautifully chaotic lives.
For the past 20 years or so I've been doing Morning Pages. This is one of the rituals I learned from Julia Cameron's The Artist's Way. Like clockwork, I've performed this ritual. It looks like this: I wake up, wash my face and brush my teeth, I take my dogs out so they can burn off their early morning zoomies, I make a caramel latte with oat milk, and then I sit with my journal, a fancy pen, and I write my three pages. Always three pages. No exceptions.
This simple ritual has revealed so much. It's shown me where I've given power away in relationships; it's shown me when I was using my energy in ways that were not in alignment with my needs; it's shown me when I've made a mistake and I've needed to ask forgiveness, and it's shown me how I can use my gifts and my talents to be of service to others. Not a servant, but of service!
This simple ritual has shown me that anyone can be healed in the most unexpected places.
Sometimes, the key to unlocking our inner peace lies in exploring unconventional rituals. It could be as simple as singing in the shower, playing with your pets, or even setting aside time for a digital detox. These unconventional rituals challenge our everyday behaviors and call us to embrace change, joy and growth!
I invite you to create a ritual that speaks to your soul, and let it guide you towards inner peace and self-discovery! Find your sanctuary of comfort and move beyond the ordinary, the rote!
If you would like to join me for a 15-week deep dive into your creativity and spiritual awakening, and create some new rituals for healing and self-care, sign up for The Artist's Way, which will begin on Monday, September 30th for 15 weeks on Zoom.
