On today's edition of Women Who Empower Us we hear from CJ Van Lit!
I'm CJ, originally from the Netherlands, but I’ve called Tennessee home for nearly 9 years! For 3.5 years, I’ve been employed with Beautycounter, a clean beauty company that advocates for better beauty laws. In that time, I have helped hundreds of women switch to safer personal care products and helped make it their business. Beautycounter not only formulates incredible beauty products but we also helped pass 12 pieces of legislation to make personal care products safer for everyone.

I have always been someone to follow my gut, whether it's halfway across the world for love or to switch paths after life-changing events. When my first child was born I felt very lost with what was next. I was in the middle of graduate school and I didn’t want to continue. All I knew was I wanted to spend as much time as possible with my child. I was so blessed to find Beautycounter at this time and to have an opportunity to build something that's my own while staying home with my babies.
Empowering women is at the center of what I do. In helping them be confident in their skin and create a routine that doesn't compromise their health. Selling beauty products is always about so much more than just lipstick; it is incredible to see the confidence boost when women feel good in their skin.
On the other hand, this business and the women I lead in my organization go through tremendous growth. Social selling is really personal development with a paycheck and the impact of financial freedom in women's lives is unparalleled. I always say nothing bad happens when women make more money.

The North Star is such a special community. As the founder, Michelle is the heart and soul of this community and her superpower is bringing women together. I can't wait to what’s to come with the North Star.
